A survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers discovered that car buyers really, really want cup holders in their new vehicles. In fact, car salespeople need not prattle on at length about important features such as safety and fuel efficiency – to seal the deal, get right to focusing on the number and location of the vehicle's cup holders.

A good case in point is the eight-passenger Subaru Ascent, introduced in 2019 and available in 2021 models starting at an MSRP of $32,295 USD. This is a vehicle that’s been super-sized with cup and bottle holders, with a whopping 19 drink receptacles strategically placed all around the vehicle. That’s enough for every passenger to stow 2.4 beverages each.

Feeling thirsty?

  • It’s exactly what traveling Americans want in a vehicle. “Our customers have been asking for it,” explained a Milwaukee Subaru dealer. “We’ve lost business because we didn’t have a vehicle like this.”

  • There are four cup holders in the center console (two in front, two for the second row passengers), and the rest are tucked into side panels all along the interior of the SUV.

  • The Subaru Ascent's cup holders come in various sizes. Some are small enough to cradle a Starbucks skinny latte. Others are massive enough to corral a 7-11 Big Gulp.
